Saffron is a spice extracted from saffron crocus (crocus sativus) that has traditionally been used as an additive and food colorant worldwide, but also as a natural remedy for several diseases given its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Within nutritional supplements, saffron has recently been postulated as one of the most interesting alternative treatments for ADHD. Accordingly, different authors have advocated for the use of alternative treatments such as neurofeedback, serious video games, and/or nutritional supplements. Although ADHD medications are safe, and the profile of side effects is usually mild, many parents and patients are reluctant to take these medications. Pharmacotherapy consists of stimulants (i.e., methylphenidate, lisdexamphetamine) or non-stimulant drugs (i.e., atomoxetine, guanfacine). Multimodal treatment, including pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, and psychoeducation, is the treatment of choice for ADHD. ADHD symptoms typically encompass hyperactivity, inattention, and impulsivity. Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most prevalent neurodevelopmental disorders among children, adolescents, and adults worldwide.
